Congratulations...by partnering with Platinum Internet, you are already on your way to free search engine traffic and higher profits!

The first step is to work with you to prepare a list of keywords that we will optimize your web site for, in order to generate traffic for specific search terms. These are the phrases that people will typically type in when looking for a business like yours.

Keyword Selection
There are some great tools available to help you build your keyword list, and you will find the best of these on this page. But first, some general advice on keyword selection.

  1. Try to build a large and comprehensive list, in order to have the best chance of generating maximum traffic
  2. Look for 'buyer' keywords - someone searching on 'buy digital camera' or 'digital camera on sale' is obviously ready to make a purchase now...the best traffic you can get
  3. Be wary of the word 'free' which tends to attract tyre-kickers
  4. People tend to do general research first, then when they have more information and are ready to buy, they go back and make a more specific search. So someone searching for 'digital camera' is probably just browsing, while someone searching for 'Canon MP 309 digital camera' knows exactly what they want to buy.
  5. Longer keyphrases - three or four words plus, are often easier to rank for, and produce more qualified visitors who know what they want
  6. Around half your traffic may come from 'long tail' searches - these are keyphrases that are not searched very often individually, but when you add them all up, they represent a lot of traffic
  7. Use the tools to add mis-spellings, which can generate some useful extra traffic
